Foundation Study Series
Foundations is a series of Bible studies designed to help us "watch our life and doctrine" (I Timothy 4:16), providing people with a strong, biblical foundation upon with to make a decision about getting baptized, growing in intentional obedience to Jesus and/or placing membership in the Kanawha Church. These studies are designed to be done with a few other people to develop a community of discovery, application and obedience. If you are new to the KC, feel free to click the button below to connect with someone to study with!
How To Use The Foundation Study Series
"...go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
-Jesus
Use #1: Disciple Making, Maturing & Mobilizing
This booklet serves an important role in developing and reinforcing a disciple making, maturing and mobilizing culture in the Kanawha Church. It is a tool designed to meet the needs of all three of those goals.
So who should do the Foundation Bible Study Series?
1. Make Disciples - Those interested in learning about Jesus and possibly becoming his disciple.
2. Mature Disciples - Those who are disciples but need help through strengthening biblical convictions and personal accountability to mature in obedience and ministry.
3. Mobilize Disciples - Those seeking to be trained on how to be a disciple-maker.
How this booklet is used?
This book is designed to be used in a group of 3-4 people. It is helpful to have people from the same Life Group participate in order to deepen those relationships. If you are new to the KC, please fill out the Connect Card above and we can connect you with people to do the studies with. We advise that they be same-gender groups as sensitive topics will be addressed.
The studies can be done as quickly or slowly as is beneficial to each person's life and spiritual journey. The goal is for the group to commit to meeting consistently (weekly).
Between meetings, the members are to review the study and study the passages used in each study. Go deep! Take the time to read the passages in context. Look up other related and additional passages related to the theme. Answer the thought questions and take the time to prayerfully reflect on your life. Allow the Holy Spirit to use this time to move in your heart. The goal is to come to the meeting ready to engage in deep biblical and personal discussion about God’s word and work in our lives.
How to start a new study group?
1. Prayerfully consider who would be a part of this group.
2. Invite the people you want to be a part of this group explaining to them the goal of the study and the commitment that is required.
3. Each person that is invited is asked to prayerfully consider their decision to commit to seeing this process all the way through.
Use #2: New Member Alignment
We believe that unity is critical for the health of a church. We want to ensure that every person that becomes a member of the Kanawha Church is unified in “life and doctrine” (I Timothy 4:16).
In order to facilitate this unity in relational environments, we ask anyone seeking to place membership to commit to doing these Foundation Bible study sessions that lay out the core theology and methodology of the Kanawha Church.
This process can be done as quickly or slowly as each person desires. It insures unity and equips each new member to embrace the mission of the Kanawha Church: to make, mature and mobilize disciple-makers in relational environments.
At the end of the studies, if a person….
-Agrees with the theological foundation and life expectation,
-Has experienced and teaches Biblical conversion,
-Is committed to engaging in the Kanawha Church’s plan for mission and shepherding…
…they will be added as a member of the Kanawha Church!
