Connecting With God
Bible Study
II Timothy 3:16-17
What does it mean that “All Scripture is God-breathed”? Do you believe that the Bible is God’s perfect (inerrant), inspired word? (2 Peter 1:20) If this isn’t your belief, we commend your honesty and recommend you look at the resources below for solid evidence the Bible we have is the inerrant word of God, faithfully transmitted to us.
How could you use the Bible for “teaching, correcting, rebuking, and training in righteousness”?
How frequently should we be “training in righteousness”? Ref. The Manna Principle (Matthew 4:4 & Deuteronomy 8:1-3)
How will devotion to God’s Word make you ready for anything?
Hebrews 4:12-13
What does it mean that the word is living and active?
How is God’s word like a sharp sword?
The Bible judges “the thoughts and attitudes of our heart.” How is that different than our actions?
Everything will be laid bare before God and we will be judged by His word. What does that say about the importance of reading the Bible?
If you met God today, would you be confident that you would pass the test according to His word?
1 Timothy 4:16
What is the difference between life and doctrine? Is one more important than the other?
Can you think of an example of someone with a good life but wrong doctrine? Is that a saving faith? Also think of someone with the right doctrine who doesn’t live it out. Will they save themselves and their hearers?
Why does keeping life and doctrine in check require perseverance and a close watch?
Do you know if your life is in line with God’s word (righteousness, sin, , etc)? What about your doctrine (Jesus, salvation, etc.)?
Are you ready to make the Bible the standard for your life and doctrine?
Prayer
Luke 11:1-13
Why do you think the disciples asked Him to teach them to pray?
Jesus gave them a prayer as a guide and framework. What jumps out to you about this prayer?
What do the parables teach you about prayer?
Do you pray boldly and confidently? This is what God desires!
Processing:
Has the Bible and prayer played the roles of “teaching, rebuking, correcting and equipping” as God intends in your life?
How do you think your life is going to be affected as you connect with God?
Assignment:
God invites us into a vital relationship through Bible study and prayer.
Begin reading a gospel (the book of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John).
Pray about what inspires about Jesus and how you want to live out the passage you read each day.
